Velvet Flora, a Kannauj rose attar with amber

Velvet Flora is built on Kannauj rose. Kannauj has been the centre of rose attar distillation in India for centuries, and the rose associated with it is deeper and less sharp than the rose used in most modern floral perfumes. That is the note this attar opens on.

Underneath the rose sit white musk and amber. The white musk keeps the florals soft rather than powdery, and the amber gives the fragrance its warmth as it settles. The oil contains no alcohol and comes in a 6 ml glass bottle with a glass applicator in the cap.

Fragrance notes and oil concentration

• Kannauj rose at the top. Rounder and warmer than a modern floral rose, and the reason this reads as traditional rather than fresh.
• White musk through the middle. Soft rather than heavy, which keeps the rose from turning powdery.
• Amber at the base. This is what separates Flora from the lighter floral attars in the range and gives it warmth through the day.
• Lasts 8 to 12 hours from a single application, though this varies with skin type and climate.
• Alcohol free base. With no alcohol diluting it, the oil stays on the skin instead of evaporating off it, which is why small drops are enough.
• One formulation for everyone. Sold as a single unisex oil.
