Velvet Virasatt, a musk and sandalwood attar

Velvet Virasatt runs on two of the oldest materials in Indian perfumery: musk at the opening and sandalwood underneath it. There is nothing bright or citrus in it and nothing resinous, which makes it the most straightforward fragrance in the Velvet range rather than the most complex.

The oil contains no alcohol and comes in a 6 ml glass bottle measuring 5.5 cm by 2 cm.

Fragrance notes and oil concentration

• Musk at the opening. Soft and warm rather than sharp, and what gives this attar its familiar character from the first application.
• Sandalwood underneath. Creamy and steady, and the note the fragrance settles onto and holds through the day.
• Two notes only. Most attars in this range run on three or four. This one does not shift much between application and evening, which some people prefer.
• Lasts 8 to 12 hours from a single application, though this varies with skin type and climate.
• Alcohol free base. With no alcohol diluting it, the oil stays on the skin instead of evaporating off it, which is why one drop replaces several sprays.
• One formulation for everyone. Sold as a single unisex oil.
