Velvet Lume, a white musk attar

White musk is a different thing from the darker, animalic musk used in traditional attars. It is clean and soft rather than heavy, which is why it sits behind fragrances described as fresh rather than rich. Velvet Lume is built on it.

Light sandalwood and amber run underneath, both used sparingly. The result is the quietest fragrance in the Velvet range, closer to a skin scent than a statement one. The oil contains no alcohol and comes in a 6 ml bottle.

Fragrance notes and oil concentration

• White musk as the lead note. Clean and soft rather than animalic, and the reason this reads as gentle where the oud attars read as strong.
• Light sandalwood in the middle. Present enough to give the fragrance a base, restrained enough not to turn it woody.
• Warm amber underneath. Adds warmth without weight, which is what keeps the whole thing from being flat.
• A quiet fragrance by design. This one sits close to the skin rather than projecting, which suits people who want to be noticed at arm's length rather than across a room.
• Alcohol free base. With no alcohol diluting it, the oil stays on the skin instead of evaporating off it, which is why one drop replaces several sprays.
